Floating Labels – Sink or Swim

Session Evaluation

Class description

Have you worked with UX/UI Designers that require placeholder text in form field elements to act as visual labels? You’ll usually hear a comment like, “we do not have enough screen real estate to add a permanent visual label next to the field”. Unfortunately, placeholders are not the answer. I will discuss the new cool kid in town, Floating Labels. Topics will include, color contrast, help text, programmatically associated labels and visual labels for all users at all times. I will show you how to develop valid code, using HTML5, CSS and JavaScript, to create accessible, mobile friendly, cross browser friendly and real estate friendly labels.
