Ron Lucey Ron Lucey has been serving the needs of Texans with disabilities for the past 20 years. He is a graduate of the University of Texas with degrees in government and communications. During the past two decades, his perspective as a person with a visual disability has helped him effectively advocate for accessibility and the rights of citizens with disabilities. Ron's efforts include serving as a City Commissioner and Chair of the Austin Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities, providing accessibility policy recommendations to the City Council and Austin's past four mayors.

Ron has held several positions at DARS and its legacy agencies, the Texas Commission for the Blind, including the establishment of an automated statewide information & referral system and the creation of a blindness prevention program.

In 2005, Ron was hired as the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Accessibility Coordinator to develop and implement an enterprise electronic information technology accessibility policy for the five Texas Health and Human Services agencies. Ron served as the first chair of the interagency Health and Human Services EIR Accessibility Workgroup. He is currently the Manager of the DARS Center for Policy and Innovation Policy Technical Assistance and Accessibility unit, providing policy writing, accessibility testing, and consulting to DARS and the Health and Human Services Commission. Ron enthusiastically shares his accessibility knowledge and experience with other state agencies through regular presentations at DIR accessibility forums, Knowbility Access-U Conferences, and PESO-wg monthly meetings.
