Kathy Keller
Kathy
Keller became an advocate for barrier-free technology after graduating from
a special webmaster certification course at Austin Community College in 2000.
The classes were developed specifically in the techniques of accessible web
design. After an internship as webmaster with Capital Idea, a non-profit organization
committed to empowering adults through education and job placement, Kathy was
hired at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as Information Specialist (Web
Designer) in the Communications Division. Five years later, she is Web Accessibility
Administrator for the agency with the Communications Web Group.
Kathy is also a member of an Expert Panel for I. T. Works, a project of the Law, Health Policy and Disability Center (LHPDC) at the University Of Iowa College Of Law. The project's over-arching goal is to help reduce the shortage of trained IT workers and increase the employment of individuals with disabilities in IT-related jobs.
Her first involvement with Knowbility was during AIR-Austin in 2000. In the next three years, Kathy competed four more times, with two winning websites. In the summer of 2004, she became an AIR Advisory Board member, and shortly thereafter a judge and trainer for Knowbility.
