KNOWBILITY AND HONORARY CHAIRWOMAN ROBIN RATHER ANNOUNCE WINNERS OF 2005 AIR-AUSTIN PROGRAM

Austin, TEXAS – OCTOBER 27, 2005 – Knowbility, Inc., the nation’s leader in hands-on training on information technology (IT) accessibility, today announced the winners of its 8th annual Accessibility Internet Rally for Austin (or AIR-Austin) competition, who received their awards last night at the group’s annual celebration dinner hosted by Honorary Chairwoman Robin Rather and held at the Radisson Hotel and Suites in downtown Austin.

The first place websites for AIR-Austin 2005 are:

  • In the advanced, open category (known as "Formula One") - Personal Connections Healthcare, led by Team UTSA from the University of Texas-San Antonio

  • In the basic, open category (known as "Stock Car") – Paso Adelante, led by the Pluck Corporation

  • In the university-only category (known as "AIR-University") – the Eugene McDermott Scholars Program, led by a University of Texas-Dallas team

Other website teams receiving awards included Coefficient Designs, Go9Media / Vox Group, GSD&M Interactive, Trademark Media, and two teams from the University of Texas-Austin, for the College of Liberal Arts and for the Women in Engineering Program.

The Accessibility Internet Rally is a unique training and competition program – recognized for innovation by the US Department of Labor, the White House, and many others – in which community non-profits are matched with professional software and website developers to create a website for the non-profit that is accessible to children and adults with disabilities, through the use of assistive technologies, such as a screen reader that can “speak” the contents of web pages for the blind.

"We were very pleased with the overall results of the 2005 AIR-Austin, during which 29 professionally developed websites were created or redesigned for non-profits as diverse as the Westwood High School swim team, to KMFA, to the Girl Scout's Lone Star Council, to the City of Rollingwood," said William H. Cahill, chairman of the Knowbility board of directors. "We are grateful to all of the many team members, non-profits, and volunteers who participated in and produced AIR-Austin, most especially our major sponsors Applied Materials, City of Austin, Dell, Hoovers, Macromedia, New Horizons, Perceptive Sciences, and Primus Networks."
