The John Slatin Fund Accessibility Project – Volunteering

The John Slatin Accessibility Fund Project is an independent volunteer collaborative effort of many individual and business accessibility experts who are generously donating time. Knowbility has volunteered hosting and management services but does not own the project.

Thanks to the amazing kindness and generosity of the more than 70 volunteers who have signed on to The John Slatin Fund Accessibility Project as accessibility experts. Now we need to spread the word. Please encourage decision makers you know at government agencies, businesses, and schools to take advantage of this great opportunity. Ask them to learn more about the project and sign up to receive an accessibility review

The John Slatin Fund Accessibility Project will match accessibility experts with companies that would like a brief review of their site for accessibility. In return, site owners will contribute a minimum of $500 to the Slatin fund to help offset medical expenses incurred during John’s long illness. 100% of contributed funds go directly to John’s wife Anna.

Volunteers for The John Slatin Fund Accessibility Project will work with bloggers and the media to get the word out about the project, seeking both financial contributors and reviewers volunteers. Companies that are interested in a review will sign up on the project home page. At that time, they will be paired with an accessibility reviewer from the list of volunteers.

Each review should take somewhere from three to five hours. The reviewer will look at compliance with W3C guidelines, including major accessibility issues and a list of recommendations. Many of our reviewers are professionals and have their own format for reviews. We simply ask that reviewers perform a high-quality, objective review and documents major strengths and weaknesses of the site for accessibility. If you would like a template to work from, contact Sharron Rush.

One thing that we ask of all volunteers is that everyone be very delicate on matters of business development. The John Slatin Fund Accessibility Project does indeed represent an opportunity to recruit new clients. However, please keep in mind that the focus of the project is raising money for John’s family.
